Mathieu Chaze is a French-born photographer living and working in the UK.

His practice is rooted in long-term photographic projects that explore time, memory and the elemental presence of the natural world. Working predominantly in black and white, he is interested in the ambiguity of the photographic image and in the way landscape can become a space for memory, perception and contemplation.

The photobook is central to his practice. His first monograph, Rock, Paper, Scissors, was published by BurnBooks in 2021. Song of Silent Water, edited by David Campany and published by L'Artière in 2026, was acquired by the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.

He is currently developing a new long-term series, Alpilles, set in the South of France.

Alongside his personal work, Chaze takes on brand and editorial commissions, and mentors photographers developing a body of work toward publication.

His work is represented by The Hulett Collection.
