Mathieu Chaze is a French-born photographer, born in Burgundy, working in landscape and portraiture. His practice is shaped by long-term projects that attend to time, meaning, and the elemental presence of the natural world. Working predominantly in black and white, the photobook is central to his practice, allowing images to gather and remain open over time.
His debut photobook, Rock, Paper, Scissors, was made during a period spent homeschooling his two sons. Bringing together portraits and landscapes made in the English countryside, the work reflects on childhood, family bonds, and time experienced through place.
His second book, Song of Silent Water, is published by L'Artiere Edizioni in 2026, edited by David Campany. His work is held in private collections internationally. He is represented by The Hulett Collection.
He lives and works in the UK.
